Relying on the Northern Shaanxi Hubei project, State Grid will promote the standardization of ± 800kV and the transportation capacity of 8 million KW "double 800" UHV DC technology, equipment and planning, promote the independent R & D, production and application of DC casing and other links, drive the innovation and development of the whole UHV DC industrial chain, and create UHV technology A model project that can be promoted.

To ensure the safe and reliable supply of Hubei electric power. Hubei Province is an important province to implement the strategy of the rise of the central region, with a large demand for electricity. The UHV project is selected to deliver the electric power of Northern Shaanxi power base directly to Hubei load center. It can effectively alleviate the contradiction between the supply and demand of electric power in Hubei and central China in the medium and long term, and help win the battle of pollution prevention and control. The cooperation between North Shaanxi Hubei project and existing UHV projects in Central China can give full play to the advantages of large capacity, long distance and low loss of UHV power grid, effectively support the construction of UHV AC / DC main grid in Central China, and optimize the local power structure.
Promote the development and delivery of power base. Shaanxi has abundant power resources, which is a powerful province in China. Now the proven power reserves are in the forefront of the country. In Northern Shaanxi, coal resources are widely distributed, large reserves, good coal quality and easy to mine. The cost of power construction and power generation are relatively low. New power resources such as wind energy and solar energy in Shaanxi are very rich, with great development potential and significant complementary advantages. In 2020, the installed capacity of new power will be close to 20 million kilowatts, mainly concentrated in Northern Shaanxi. It is estimated that the demand for power transmission in Northern Shaanxi will exceed 10 million kilowatts during the "14th five year plan" period. After the completion of the project, it will vigorously promote the intensive development of the power base in Northern Shaanxi and large-scale power transmission, promote the efficient use of power resources, and effectively guide the rational layout of related industries.
