At 10:38 a.m. on April 1, Hunan nuclear industry Honghua Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Honghua company) organized and implemented the first thermal test of waste metal smelting project of nuclear power station in China, which filled in the gap of domestic recycling and reuse industry of artificial nuclide contaminated metal.
The waste metal smelting project of nuclear power station is the first production line of waste metal smelting, decontamination and recycling in China. With the continuous operation of nuclear power units in China, a large number of radioactive waste metals will be produced during the operation, maintenance and decommissioning of nuclear power units. According to the requirements of national waste minimization strategy, the situation of nuclear power development and the needs of sustainable development, Honghua company carried out the research on the smelting and recycling of radioactive metals in nuclear power plants, and built the first production line of metal smelting for the treatment of waste containing artificial radionuclides in China.
As a key project of CNNC environmental protection in 2020, Honghua company, while doing well in epidemic prevention and control, returned to work early, scientifically and reasonably arranged operation time and overtime work in accordance with technological process and thermal test plan, successfully completed the joint commissioning and joint test of equipment production line, and realized the waste minimization and resource recycling of waste metal pollution in nuclear power plant.
As an environmental protection enterprise approved by the former Ministry of environmental protection and only engaged in decontamination and recycling of low-level radioactive contaminated metals, Honghua company is the radioactive contaminated metal smelting and processing center of CNNC group, and has the skills of decontamination and recycling of natural nuclide radioactive contaminated metals smelting. The successful hot test laid a solid foundation for the next formal production. After the operation of the project, Honghua company will have the production capacity to deal with natural nuclide metals and artificial nuclide metals in nuclear power plants, and has made solid progress in building a world-class specialized production base for smelting, decontamination, decontamination, control and recycling of retired metal in nuclear facilities and a scientific, technological and environmental friendly enterprise.
