Why do we need to recycle SF6?
1. SF6 is very expensive;
2. SF6 is the main greenhouse gas with high global warming potential listed in the Kyoto Protocol, and its global warming potential is 22800 times that of CO 2;
3. When SF6 gas contains moisture, it will cause the following hazards to electrical equipment:
(1) In the presence of water, the hydrolysis reaction of SF6 decomposition products hinders the recombination of SF6 decomposition products, reduces the recovery strength of SF6 medium, and thus reduces the insulation characteristics of equipment;
(2) Enhanced hydrolysis of low fluoride and decomposition of metal fluoride. Fluorinated sulfurous acid and hydrofluoric acid produced are highly toxic, which are very harmful to human health, and can also corrode electrodes and insulating materials;
(3) It will cause condensation in the equipment. As the moisture in the gas exists in the form of water vapor, when the temperature drops, it may condense inside the equipment and attach to the surface of the equipment, such as electrodes, insulators, etc., which is easy to cause surface discharge (flashover) and cause accidents;
(4) Fluorinated sulfite and hydrofluoric acid will pollute the environment if they enter the atmosphere.
4. Leakage in gas insulated equipment means that there is less gas to protect it from electric arc. The result is signal loss, short circuit, failure, and ultimately equipment failure that endangers safety and operation. Even a 10% loss of gas can cause permanent damage to insulators, shielding, arcing contacts, and main contacts.
Equipment failure brings maintenance and replacement, which is very expensive in terms of time and money. Property loss may also occur, such as fire, as well as long-term power failure due to poor insulation of equipment.
