The cable fault tester is a multifunctional device that can detect various types of cable faults. Specifically, it can detect the following types of faults:
① Open circuit fault: When a part of the cable is completely disconnected and current cannot flow, it is called an open circuit fault. This may be caused by cable breakage, joint detachment, or cable terminal damage.
② Short circuit fault: The two or three phase core wires of the cable are directly connected, or the core wires are connected to the shielding layer or armor layer, resulting in the inability of current to pass through normally and forming a short circuit. Short circuit faults may be caused by cable aging, insulation layer damage, or external force damage.
Three low resistance faults: When the insulation resistance between the core wire and the shielding or armor layer, as well as between the core wires, drops to a certain value (usually less than a few hundred ohms), but a short circuit has not yet formed, this fault is called a low resistance fault.
④ High resistance fault: The insulation resistance between the core wire and the shielding layer or armor layer of the cable, as well as between the core wires, increases above the specified value but has not yet reached an open circuit state. This type of fault is called a high resistance fault. High impedance faults may be caused by cable aging, moisture, or damage.
⑤ Flashover fault: When the test voltage reaches a certain value, the fault point of the cable instantly breaks down and discharges, but when the test voltage drops to a certain value, the insulation of the fault point is restored. This type of fault is called flashover fault and usually occurs in high impedance faults.
⑥ Leakage fault: The insulation resistance value of the cable is much lower than the normal value, but it has not yet reached the level of a short circuit fault. Current can form leakage current through the insulation resistance. This type of fault is called a leakage fault, which may be caused by cable aging, moisture, or damage.
The cable fault tester detects and locates the above-mentioned types of faults by sending specific test signals (such as low voltage pulses, high voltage flashover, etc.) to the cable and receiving and analyzing the reflected signals. Different testing methods and signal types are applicable to different types of cables and fault situations. Therefore, when using a cable fault tester, it is necessary to choose the appropriate testing method and parameters according to the specific situation.
In addition, the cable fault tester may also have other functions, such as cable path detection, cable length measurement, depth measurement of fault points, etc., in order to more comprehensively understand and evaluate the status and performance of the cable.
The ZC-700A cable fault tester is a new generation portable cable fault tester designed and manufactured by our company based on user requirements and considering on-site use. It adheres to our consistent principles of high technology, high precision, and high quality, and elevates the level of cable testing to a new level. The cable fault tester consists of three main parts: flash testing, tracking, and positioning. The tester can be used to detect low resistance, high resistance, short circuit, open circuit, leakage and flashover faults of various cables, accurately detecting the location of fault points, cable length and cable burial path of underground cables. It has the characteristics of accurate testing, high level of intelligence, wide adaptability, stable performance, and lightweight portability.
