About 1.7gwe nuclear power capacity in the United States wil

Recently, S & P global Platts Analytics has shown that unit 2 of Indian Point nuclear power plant (1020mwe) and Duane Arnold nuclear power plant (615mwe), which are affiliated to the independent system operator's Mall in New York State, will be decommissioned in 2020 with general assembly The capacity is about 1.7gwe.

It is understood that in addition to the decommissioning of unit 2 of Indian Point nuclear power plant on April 30, 2020, unit 3 of the plant will also be decommissioned on April 30, 2021, with a total installed capacity of about 2000 MWe. By then, the capacity gap will be mainly covered by the newly built cricket Valley gas power plant (1100mwe) and the under construction CPV Valley gas power plant (680mwe), while the remaining 120mwe will be provided by the Bayonne Energy Center II upgrade project, a New Jersey dual fuel (gas / oil) power plant.

Meanwhile, the Duan Arnold nuclear power plant is also planned to be closed by the end of 2020. At that time, the capacity gap will be mainly covered by interstate power and light's wind power plant, the Iowa branch of alliance energy.

New type of small reactor is favored

In recent years, all kinds of small reactor (SMR) concepts are favored by all parties. Small reactor designers have shown that new units with a capacity of less than 300MWe will complement renewable power to provide base load support for the grid where intermittent power is located. Although no such units have yet been put into construction, Utah United municipal power systems (uamps) is planning to build its first small nuclear power plant at the Idaho National Laboratory site by 2027. Doug hunter, CEO of uamps, also told the Washington power conference that in the northwest region alone, about 6000 MWe of nuclear power capacity will be decommissioned by 2030, and modular reactors can be manufactured in the factory and transported to the site for rapid installation, which will help meet the capacity replacement demand, provided that nuclear power skills meet the established time and budget standards.
