The volt ampere characteristic is the relationship between the voltage and current of the secondary winding of a current transformer. If the voltage is adjusted from small to large, and each current corresponding to the applied voltage is drawn in a coordinate system (the voltage is in the vertical coordinate and the current is in the horizontal coordinate), the curve formed is called the volt ampere characteristic curve. Measuring the volt ampere characteristic mainly checks the quality of the CT iron core, and determines whether the winding of the transformer has defects such as inter turn short circuits by distinguishing the saturation degree of the iron core magnetization.


The volt ampere characteristic (also known as excitation characteristic) of current transformers is one of the most important handover tests. It is also listed as a necessary test item in accordance with the national standard GB50150-2016, along with the transformation ratio, angle difference, 10% error test, primary and secondary winding DC resistance, and power frequency withstand voltage test of current transformers.

Product characteristics:

1. It can also be used for testing excitation characteristics, transformation ratio, polarity, secondary winding resistance, ratio difference, and other tests of various PT electromagnetic units.

5. Automatically provide CT and PT parameters such as inflection point voltage/current, 10% (5%) error curve, accuracy limit factor (ALF), instrument security factor (FS), secondary time constant (Ts), remanence coefficient (Kr), saturated and unsaturated inductance.

6. The test meets various transformer standards such as GB1208 (IEC60044-1), GB16847 (IEC60044-6), GB1207, and automatically selects which standard to test based on the type and level of the transformer.
