Common troubleshooting techniques for DC high-voltage generators

The DC high-voltage generator, also known as the high-voltage generator, is mainly suitable for conducting DC withstand voltage tests on high-voltage electrical equipment such as zinc oxide lightning arresters, power cables, transformers, generators, high-voltage switches, etc. in power maintenance departments, industrial and mining, metallurgical, steel and other enterprise power departments.


The main characteristics of the DC high-voltage generator are large output power, small size, and light weight. It has reliable overvoltage, overcurrent, and zero position closing protection functions, which increase the AC voltage input by the transformer by hundreds of times, and then undergo rectification to provide the DC high voltage required for X-ray tube production. The AC voltage input to the primary circuit of the X-ray tube filament is also reduced to provide heating voltage for the X-ray tube. If equipped with two or more X-ray tubes, it is necessary to switch the tube voltage and filament heating voltage.

The following will introduce common troubleshooting techniques for DC high-voltage generators:

1. When the power switch is turned on, the digital display meter on the control box does not light up

Please check the power supply wiring and all safety tubes. If the safety tubes are damaged, please replace them with new tubes according to the ampere rating marked next to the safety tube holder.

2. If the power switch is turned on, the digital display will light up, but the high voltage display light (green) will not light up, and the high voltage cannot be added.

① The fault display "return to zero" light is on

If there is no return to zero position, please turn the high-voltage output adjustment knob and fine adjustment knob counterclockwise to return to the zero position until the "return to zero" light is off, and then the high voltage can be applied.

② There are two phenomena when the fault display "Other" light is on: 1. Ground protection, and 2. Wire break protection

a. The grounding wire may not be properly connected, or the grounding wire may not be reliably grounded. Please connect a reliable ground wire, turn off the power, and restart.

b. It may be that the cable connecting the control box to the high-voltage tower is not properly connected. Please turn off the power and restart after connecting the cable. This fault may occur when the welding heads at both ends of the cable come off. Please weld the welding heads at both ends of the cable, turn off the power, and restart.

c. It is possible that a wire end in the control box may be detached and disconnected. Please re weld it, turn off the power, and restart.

3. Everything is normal, but protected during the process of not reaching the rated output voltage

① Fault display "overcurrent" light is on

a. Short circuit or excessive leakage current of the test object.

b. When carrying large capacitive loads, the voltage rises too fast. Turn off the power, restart, and slow down the boost speed.

② The fault display "overvoltage" light is on

The overvoltage protection setting knob is not at its maximum position. Please rotate it clockwise to its maximum position, turn off the power, and restart.

4. When a short circuit occurs under high voltage of the test object, due to the high short-circuit current, it is possible to turn on all fault display lights. This is normal. Please troubleshoot the test object and restart.

5. After troubleshooting the test object, the fault display light remains on and the high voltage cannot be applied.

The power switch also serves as a fault protection reset switch. Please turn off the power switch and restart to boost the voltage.
