Why does the insulation resistance tester experience overheating?

The insulation resistance tester is a new generation of transformer DC resistance testing instrument, which is small in size, light in weight, and easy to carry. In practical use, if the insulation resistance tester overheats, it is mostly caused by the following factors. Let's take a look together.

① Improper selection of wires and equipment during overload design, or current carrying exceeding the rated value, can cause equipment overload and heating.

② Poor heat dissipation: Various electrical equipment generally have certain measures for heat dissipation or ventilation. If these measures are damaged, it may cause the equipment to overheat.

③ Poor contact, loose connection of wire joints, poor contact of movable contacts, and electrolytic corrosion of copper aluminum joints can all cause overheating.

④ The insulation damage or prolonged overvoltage of equipment such as iron core heating transformers and motors, as well as increased eddy current and hysteresis losses, can cause the iron core of transformers and motors to heat up, leading to overheating.

⑤ Electric appliances such as lamps and furnaces that directly utilize the heat generated by current may also overheat if installed or used improperly. If electrical equipment overheats due to the above or other reasons, causing the conductor temperature to rise and heating combustible materials or objects around it, it may cause a fire.

⑥ During a short circuit, the current in the circuit generally increases by several to several tens of times, rapidly generating a large amount of heat energy, which can immediately burn through the insulation of the conductor; If heat energy is transmitted to combustible materials around it, it can cause combustion. The reason for the occurrence of a short circuit is due to the aging of the insulation of the equipment or the loss of insulation capacity due to high temperature, humidity, or corrosion, or mechanical damage to the insulation during the installation of electrical equipment. In addition, lightning overvoltage, insulation breakdown, wiring errors, and shell collisions may all cause short circuit faults.
